The associate of science degree in radiologic technology prepares students to be licensed radiologic technologists, whose responsibilities include taking radiographs of all parts of the human body for use in diagnosing medical problems. Technologists also perform other duties, such as assisting physicians in conducting fluoroscopic examinations during which a patient’s internal organs are viewed on a monitor.
Students in the program gain extensive practical clinical experience at area hospitals, as well as use radiographic equipment in LSUE’s energized (X-ray) laboratory. Graduates are eligible to sit for the national certification examination administered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.
Admission to the program is selective. First preference is given to applicants who have completed a one-year sequence of preparatory courses. For details about selection criteria, consult the LSUE Catalog.

The mission of the Radiologic Technology Program at Los Angeles City College is to Provide the student with a stimulating environment in which to achieve educational and personal growth while developing the technical skills necessary for success as a professional diagnostic medical radiographer. A Career
Radiologic technology is a health care profession whose practictioners work in hospitals, clinics, and free standing imaging centers. The Radiographer is a member of the health care team who works directly with the patient and the physician in performing a wide variety of diagnostic and interventional therapy procedures. The radiographer must be proficient in the knowledge of radiographic exposure, anatomy,patient positioning the operation of specialized equipment and the care and management of the patient. The rapid expansion of medical diagnostic imaging has greatly increased the diversity and utility of medical diagnosis. A career in radiologic technology offers vast opportunities for advancement.

The Radiologic Technology Program is a twenty-one month (five sequential semesters) course of study leading to an associate’s degree. Students are admitted in the fall, with a limited number of openings each year. Graduates will be eligible to take the national registry examination administered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT). Not all courses in this program transfer to all colleges. Students planning to transfer should see an academic advisor or counselor before enrolling in any courses.
As part of the educational training students receive hands-on experience from available clinical sites (hospitals).
