Information Technology Curriculum
Students must earn a minimum of 124 credit hours for graduation. The bachelor of science curriculum is composed of 55 credit hours. The associate of science and the minor require 18 credit hours.
Throughout the curriculum, students will apply topics through numerous hands-on activities. An applied approach will cultivate the problem-solving and analytical skills necessary for developing, managing, and maintaining information resources in today’s global electronic society.
Graduates will be prepared to be lifelong learners, equipped to utilize both current technology and future advances in the field of IT.
Companies want people who can use IT to solve real business problems. These degree programs have been aligned to meet the needs of the industry.

Computers and Information Systems offers a variety of programs of study. There are several certificate programs available, including Cisco networking, Visual Basic and VOIP just to name three.

The Personal Computer Technical Specialist describes a series of specialized computer-related degree programs in some of the most in-demand career fields. They include Networking Specialist, Cisco Networking (which also has two certificate-level programs) and Data Assurance and IT Security.

Information Systems & Technology prepares students for transfer into bachelor’s degree programs at four-year colleges and universities. The area of information systems, under the headings of Information Systems (IS) and Information Technology (IT), has become critical to the operation of many organizations. The field has evolved from a cost center to one where IS and IT operations are providing strategic value to corporations. The knowledge required to be effective in this field has also grown. IS and IT staff must understand not only how computers operate but also how they can be effectively networked together. The use of Internet technologies has become pervasive and database management has also become an integral function. The Information Systems & Technology Associate of Science degree is designed to provide students who intend to transfer to four-year institutions a strong and broad background in the area of IS and IT. Key courses are provided in the area of Web development, Networking, and Database development. The mission of the School of Information Technology is to provide premier undergraduate and distinguished graduate programs for the education of computing and telecommunications professionals, to support other academic units through courses in information technology, and to maintain, through education and research, a leadership position in the application of information technology.
The School of Information Technology offers three undergraduate bachelor’s degree programs, an undergraduate minor program, a master’s program in Information Systems, and a graduate certificate program. Our Information Systems program is the largest in the state and among the largest in the nation.Our Computer Science program is one of only four nationally accredited programs in Illinois. Our Telecommunications Management program is one of the very few in the country to be offered at a bachelor’s level.

Students in the decision science program earn the Bachelor of Business Administration degree. In addition to fulfilling University Studies requirements, students complete the College requirements, premajor and major
requirements, and College core requirements listed below.
Admission Policy
Admission to the University is sufficient for admission to the Carol Martin Gatton College of Business and Economics for students with less than a junior standing. However, lower division admission to the college or any admission to the University does not guarantee upper division admission to one of the degree programs in the Gatton College of Business and Economics. In general, admission depends upon the qualifications and preparation of the applicants, as well as the availability of resources for maintaining quality instruction.
Upper division admission into a degree program is necessary in order to be granted a baccalaureate degree from the Gatton College of Business and Economics. The upper division admission requirements for the 2008-2009 academic year are a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA or the minimum current Annual Admission GPA, whichever is lower; and a minimum 3.0 premajor GPA or the minimum current Annual Admission GPA, whichever is lower.
