Assessment
Continuous assessment methods include multiple-choice multiple-answer tests, a final on-line test, plus a practical skills examination for each semester. You must pass each semester before going on to the next one.

Course structure
The CCNP curriculum provides the knowledge and skills necessary to deploy and maintain fully integrated network infrastructure services and applications. The curriculum focuses on the advanced skills required to manage the end-to-end network infrastructure but goes beyond core routing and switching to include applications deployed on the edge of the network, such as wireless, security and voice. It includes topics such as converged networks, quality of service (QoS), virtual private networks (VPNs) and broadband technologies. CCNP integrates next-generation network devices and services engineered to provide wire-speed delivery of concurrent data, voice, video and wireless services with optimised security. The CCNP curriculum includes four courses that align to the four certification exams that are required to obtain the CCNP certification. The four courses are:

Building Scalable Internetworks:
In this course, students will learn how to create efficient and expandable enterprise-class IP routing networks by installing, configuring, monitoring, and troubleshooting network infrastructure equipment as specified in the Enterprise Composite Network model. The routed network includes the most commonly used and emerging IP routing protocols. The course aligns with the new Building Scalable Cisco Internetworks (BSCI) 642-901 exam.

Implementing Secure Converged Wide-Area Networks:
This course will teach advanced skills required to secure and enhance services in enterprise networks for teleworkers and remote sites. It will focus on securing remote access and VPN client configuration. Aligns with the new Implementing Secure Converged WANs (ISCW) 642-825 exam.

Building Multilayer Switched Networks:
In this course, students will learn how to create efficient and expandable switched enterprise networks by installing, configuring, monitoring, and troubleshooting network infrastructure equipment as specified in the Enterprise Composite Network model. The course teaches the advanced skills required for building enterprise-class switched networks with integrated VoIP and wireless applications. It includes wireless LANs, basic Quality of Service to support voice, high-availability features, and enhanced security for switches. Aligns with the new Building Cisco Multilayer Switched Network (BCMSN) 642-812 exam.

Optimising Converged Networks:
This course teaches advanced skills required to optimise Quality of Service in converged networks supporting voice, wireless, and security applications. The course aligns with the Optimised Converged Cisco Networks ONT (642-845) exam.

Entry requirements

You must have passed the CCNA award and have a certificate registration number with Cisco. If English is a second language, you should have a minimum IELTS score of 5.5 with all components 5.0 or above, or TOEFL score of 550 with 4 in TWE (Test of Written English) or 213 in the computer-based test (essay rating 4). The course also requires familiarity with the use of the internet along with some basic keyboard and office style applications.

This course is the final step towards professional certification in computer networking - successful completion of the course will enable you to design, build and maintain computer networks. The course is designed for those who already hold the CCNA qualification and have a certificate registration number with Cisco. London Metropolitan University was established as a “Cisco Regional Academy” in 1998, and is one of the very few places in the UK that has been certified by Cisco Systems to provide CCNP training in one of the most advanced CISCO training laboratories in the UK.

You must pass each semester before going on to the next one. On successful completion of CCNA 4, a Certificate of Competence is awarded by Cisco. You can then take the industry certification (CCNA) at the VUE or Prometric testing centre.

The Cisco CCNA Exploration curriculum provides a comprehensive overview of networking, from fundamentals to advanced applications and services. This course emphasises theoretical concepts and practical application, while providing opportunities for students to gain the skills and hands-on experience needed to design, install, operate, and maintain networks in small-to-medium businesses, as well as enterprise and service provider environments.

CCNA Exploration offers in-depth theory, challenging labs, and a detailed overview of protocol operations. It is designed for students with advanced problem-solving and analytical skills, such as degree candidates in engineering, maths, or science, or for working professionals who would like to advance their careers or gain certification. CCNA Exploration was designed to be integrated into technology curricula or continuing education programs at postsecondary institutions such as technical schools, colleges, and universities.

In order to become fully trained in computer networking, the Cisco Certified Networking Professional (CCNP) examinations are the final step. The network specialist certificate is designed to provide the student with the knowledge and skills required to construct, maintain, and administer a computer network system. The configuration of the hardware components of a network system and the software necessary to operate and control the network will be covered in detail. After successful completion of this program, the student will be eligible to sit for the CompTia A+ certification exam, Novell CNA certification exam, CISCO CCNA certification exam, and Microsoft 2000 Server certification exam.

In order to meet the academic requirements for graduation with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Information Systems, students must:

Complete a minimum of 128 semester units of college credit;
Satisfy the NHU General Education Breadth requirements as described in this Catalog;
Meet requirements for NHU Core Courses;
Meet requirements for the major as described in this catalog;
Complete a minimum of the University’s 30 semester units residency requirement;
Complete a minimum of 45 upper division units for graduation;
Complete a minimum of 15 upper division units in the major;

Attain an overall grade point average of “C” (2.0) or higher with a “C” (2.0) or higher in all units attempted in the major.

Computer Proficiency Examination
The National Hispanic University has implemented a Computer Proficiency Assessment Program (SAM 2007 – Skills Assessment Manager 2007) that measures a student’s proficiency in computer application skills (Word Processing, Presentation Development, Spreadsheet and Database). The assessment considers four individual examinations; each measuring the skills learned in the CS 100 and CS 103 courses. These examinations are required of all new students. The following are the keys features of the examinations.

1. The examination will be given in the computer laboratory, library or SAAC. A client/server environment will accommodate the testing process.

2. The examination will be given during the CS 100 and CS 103 classes. The SAM 2000 assessment consists of the following 4 examinations:

CS 100 midterm exam
CS 100 final exam
CS 103 midterm exam
CS 103 final exam

3. A minimum score of 70% must be achieved for each examination.

4. All students’ records will be stored on the SAM 2000 server database.

5. If students want to challenge CS 100 and/or CS 103 course(s), they must do so separately. See the catalog section “Credit by Examination” for details.

6. Even if students successfully challenge the CS 100 and/or CS 103 course(s), they still must pay the tuition for the credited units.
